1. Cugnot
Fardier
Cugnot Fardier is the
first 'self-propelled' vehicle to transport humans. The first car in the world
is the result of innovation from engineers in the French Army of Nicolas-Joseph
Cugnot. Cugnot Fardier's problem as the world's first 'self-propelled' is
debatable.
The reason, in 1672
Ferdinand Verbiest had already introduced the design of steam-powered cars, but
because the dimensions are too small and do not have enough space for the rider
and impossible to build. Steam power has been used since the early 1700s for
water pump machines from mines or lifting heavy equipment.
At that time, it was
not yet known how to convert forward motion back and forth to a circular motion
to rotate the wheel. Cugnot solved this problem and in 1769 built a full-size
prototype vehicle based on the model he had made six years earlier.
Steam Dray besutannya
it has three wheels with iron rims, two wheels are behind and one wheel in
front. Vehicles designed to carry the artillery carry the front boiler and
two-cylinder engine placed on the front wheels. At the time of operation, this
Cugnot car must stop every 10-12 minutes to rebuild the vapor pressure so that
the vehicle can return to continue the journey.
This vehicle has a top
speed of only 1 mph or about 1.6 km / hour. Currently Cugnot Fardier became one
of the collections owned by museum Musee des Arts et Metiers in the City of
Paris, France.
2. Hancock Omnibus
Hancock Omnibus was
built by British inventor Walter Hancock and can be considered the world's
first commercially successful steam-powered vehicle. That said, Cugnot Fardier
is the most successful inventor in the military world, and Hancock Omnibus is
the inventor of the most successful passenger vehicle in the world.
He successfully
transport passengers between London and Paddington. The nine pieces of
carriages he built could carry about 4,000 passengers between 1832 and 1834.
3. Grenvile Steam Carriage
In 1875, Robert Neville
Grenville of Butleigh, Glastonbury, Somerset, England began to design his steam
train. In that era the majority of cars made in 'handmade' alias made by hand
and operating costs were fairly expensive.
Grenvile trains are
more like locomotives than a car, but the capacity of passengers is limited,
only seven passengers. In addition, one passenger has a duty to 'feed' the
steam engine in order to maintain speed.
4. La Marquise
La Marquise is one of
the oldest cars in the world. Built in 1884 by three French citizens namely De
Dion, Bouton and Trépardoux. The car is a quadricycle prototype named La
Marquise (the mother's name of De Dion).
In 1887, the Count of
Dion drove La Marquise in an exhibit and at once mentioned that the car was the
world's first racing car, although at that time no other cars were on display.
La Marquise can be up to 16 mph or about 25.7 km / h. The following year, La
Marquise can beat Bouton (a tricycle) with an average speed of 18 mph or about
28.9 km / h.
The fuel itself uses
coal, wood and paper pieces, the vehicle takes between 30-40 minutes to build
enough steam for the vehicle to operate. Top speednya to touch 38 mph or about
61 km / hour.
As the oldest car, La
Marquise is entitled to wear the "0" racing number in the London to
Brighton Veteran Car Run 1996 race. The vehicle was successfully sold at Pebble
Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2007 with a fantastic price tag of 3.52 million US
dollars or about Rp. 46.9 billion. Then resold in 2011 with a tag of 4.6
million US dollars or about Rp. 61.3 billion, a record for first generation
cars in the world.
5. Benz Patent-Motorwagen lansiran
1886
In the history of the
car, Benz Patent Motorwagen is recognized as the first gasoline-powered car in
the world. It was originally built in 1885, not patented until 1886.
This car is powered by
a 954 cc centrifugal engine, single cylinder, which can spew power by
two-thirds of horsepower. Initially, the fuel supply to the engine through
evaporation.
However, Benz then
added the carburetor on the next model. He then went so far as to add shoe
leather shoes in 1887.
